    Job Title: Litigation Paralegal

    Supervisor’s Title: Paralegal Supervisor, Paralegal Department Coordinator and Supervising Partner(s) Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
    Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position depends upon the ability of the employee to work closely with attorneys and staff members during regularly scheduled hours. This position requires the ability to work overtime, which often cannot be predicted in advance.
    Location: Any of our Knobbe office locations - 
    Orange County; San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., New York, Seattle

    General Summary: Support attorneys in the preparation and prosecution of litigation cases. Assist with pleadings, discovery, motions and trial practice. Work cohesively with team members and attorneys to provide efficient support of administrative tasks and superior client service.

    Responsibilities:

    • Create and maintain case profiles, judicial profiles, court forms, litigation support services, and Federal, State, and local rules.
    • Case management, including organizing all documents and files.
    • Review and route incoming communication, e.g., faxes, emails and client correspondence, following up on deadlines as appropriate.
    • Assist case attorneys in preparation of court documents and service of discovery.
    • Coordinate and review final court documents prior to filing.
    • Assist attorneys with document production.
    • Schedule depositions with attorneys, clients, witnesses, and court reporters.
    • Preparation and submission of motion and trial exhibits.
    • Create pleading/discovery/trial binders.
    • Attend trials, assisting in all aspects and details, including hotel arrangements, travel, team schedules, etc.
    • Review all incoming court papers and forward same to Litigation Calendaring Department for input into calendaring software programs. Review all dates calendared for accuracy.
    • Review weekly calendar draft making any necessary additions, changes or deletions prior to stated deadlines.
    • Provide administrative assistance with expense summaries and client bills.
    • Provide coverage for the Litigation Department as requested. Conduct and participate in training as necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree along with a paralegal certificate.
    • Intellectual property litigation experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of federal e-filings, trial procedures and court rules preferred.
    • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Experience working with iManage or similar document management system, Adobe Acrobat, and Relativity preferred.
    • Effective writing skills; excellent proofreading, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
    • Able to work with minimal supervision exercising good judgment and decision making.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills.
    • Able to meet the Firm's billable hour requirement or value added equivalent.
    • Must be efficient, accurate, flexible, timely and have excellent attention to detail.
    • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Team player and a positive attitude is a must.
    • Must meet minimum testing requirements.
    • Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

    Base salary for this position is $70,000 to $128,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

    Salary:  $70,000 - $85,000

    The Port of Skagit is located in Skagit County, Washington, halfway between Seattle, and Vancouver, Canada. The region stands out as cost-competitive, with lower tax rates, industrial land and building costs, and median home prices compared to the nearby major metropolitan areas, and benefits from convenient access by highway, rail, air, and sea, including proximity to three international airports and seaports. Skagit County has a population of approximately 127,000 people, and the region is known as being one of the fastest growing counties in the state. With the San Juan Islands, Mount Baker and the Skagit County farmlands in the region’s backyard, there is plenty of natural beauty to explore, and seasonal events include the famous Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Historically, the department’s day-to-day operation is the responsibility of the Director with strong administrative support. This collaborative approach has been highly successful in meeting the long-term needs and goals of the Port. The Leasing Administrator serves as a key participant on the Port’s Real Estate Team and manages the Port’s leasing portfolio, including buildings and land. The Leasing Administrator handles tenant relations and manages the administrative, legal, and promotional elements of the Port’s real estate program.

    Education & Experience:  A two (2) year degree or equivalent in paralegal, legal, real estate, business, finance or related field, a minimum of five (5) years in paralegal, legal, real estate, and/or business management fields, and a valid Washington State driver's license by the time of hire is required.  The ideal candidate would be an experienced paralegal with a background in land use and real estate transactions, who also has interpersonal skills, and enough good judgement to take both initiative and direction when needed.
